Mother Earth
Mother Earth -Indigenous plant knowledge with modern self-care to honour tradition and foster connection.
Carrie Armstrong, founder of Mother Earth Essentials, grew up in Hinton, Alberta, rooted in the Belcourt and Calliou families as a Treaty Status First Nation member. Her grandmother instilled in her a deep appreciation for the healing power of plants, inspiring Carrie to explore and share these teachings through natural products that honor Indigenous culture.
With a background as an esthetician, cosmetic sales rep, and teacher at Amiskwaciy Academy, Carrie launched Mother Earth Essentials to highlight the beauty and benefits of Canadian plants. Her commitment to Indigenous culture and plant properties has been a driving force since the company's inception.
In late 2020, Carrie published "Mother Earth Plants for Health & Beauty: Indigenous Plants, Traditions and Recipes," showcasing recipes that utilize wild edible and medicinal plants. This book exemplifies her dedication to preserving Indigenous traditions and knowledge.
Despite the challenges posed by residential schools, Carrie collaborated with her grandmother, elders, and medicine people to establish the foundations of Mother Earth Essentials, ensuring the preservation and sharing of Indigenous plant knowledge remains at its core.
